Buying your first home is a big deal.

For other milestones of this caliber in our lives we often hire a professional photographer to capture moments of the event – wedding, new baby, even annual family photos for a Christmas Card get their own photo sessions for some. So its not surprising that the newest trend is to hire a professional photographer to capture your first days after you buy a home.
The Katy Team Home Owner Photo Shoot
Carrie Richards, an Oakland based portrait photographer, has been taking new home owner photos for about two years. She started when a REALTOR friend, Katy Anderson (in the red shirt above) of The Katy Team, approached her about giving a photo session to a client who had just purchased a home through her as a closing gift.

Since they started Carrie has photographed about 40  new home owners in their new homes.

So often when you are moving into a new home you are looking for more space for a growing family. So some of the new home owners will add on extra session time for say a newborn photo shoot if they haven’t done that already.

REALTORs from across Northern California are now reaching out to Carrie to set up similar arrangements for their clients. The way it works is the REALTOR pays for the session fee (usually about $350 with Carrie) and will receive digital copies of the photos to use in their marketing etc.

Home owners schedule the session at their convenience. Carrie says most of the home owners she has worked with schedule about 3-6 weeks after they move in – enough time so that most of the house is in unpacked and orderly. Just don’t open that guest room or you’ll find where all the boxes are hiding.
