A home for a first generation family

Let's begin this path by sharing a bit about myself and my family.

I am a first generation naturalized american arrived in the U.S 14 years ago from Colombia.

It has not been an easy path, specially the first years facing a new language, culture, traditions and the immigration system. Such obstacles only meant one thing: I had to use them as a stepping stone to the next one. Then fatherhood came along, oh boy, it gets more complicated, which I will elaborate later on...

My decision to get into homeownership did not come easy. I first decided to inmerse myself into the home-buying process and also signed up for first time buying class in the state i live (Connecticut). However, slowing economy, increased foreclosure news discouraged me, I ended up abandoning the thought two years ago.

What's different now?. The constant thought of pushing myself to stop paying rent and the feeling of being able to say "home-sweet-home" in my own house. What makes a house a home? In my perspective, it's not measured by the number of rooms/bathroom, square feet or home value. It goes beyond the empty spaces you can fill with furniture or housewares. A home rather than a house it's built on the memories shared, seeing your children grow up, your pets- My family has recued two dogs, Charlie and Jada and truly knowing your neighbors.

I admit I was at first wary about setting up a crowsource profile, but hey, fears and worries are part or any life-project. This is not only a project, it's a dream, you can help me reach it !
