I am a 38 year old single mom of one amazing 8 year old child. I gave birth and raised my child alone until she was 4, when I met a man I fell in love with and married a year later. We separated a year after marriage when he left us due to physical and mental health problems (long tragic story). I became a single mom, yet again. I have never owned a home. I have tried for many years to save the money, but every time I try something sets me back. Last year, after my separation, I did everything I could to get back on my feet, and was on my way to saving for a down payment. The next year, a pandemic! I just want to buy my baby a home. She has asked me for 6 years for a backyard!! I was able to find a townhome to rent in 2017, but its not for sale, so i'm drowning in high cost rent. I feel i have done all the right things. I keep my costs low, I don't have a huge amount of debt (student loan and a car loan). I have one credit card with a little debt ($1500) which was used for an emergency a few years back. I live within my means -- i haven't traveled in a decade or taken a real vacation. Just trying to save every penny i can but rent, food, and childcare just eats everything up. And i spent my entire marriage supporting my husband getting back on his feet, coming to realize he was hiding money and just made me pay for everything. I work in nonprofit so I don't make a ton of money, but enough to support my family, keep a roof over our heads, and give my child some fun when i can. I came across this site recently and thought, why not give it a shot. There's homes about 30 minutes from me that i could find affordable. I'm just at a place in my life where I just want a place to call home -- for me and my child.
