We put about $20,000 into an older home that I have owned for about 30 years from my previous marriage, but that was just so we have a place to live.  The house is in major need of a furnace and electric upgrade, but with the previous repairs I am strapped for more money.  We are both currently employed, but not to the extent that we can affored to do these upgrades.
